October 10th Meeting Recap:

The October 10th MIOH Woodturners meeting was held at Christ Episcopal Church.  Jim Nickless presided in my absence. Twenty two members were in attendance along with two guest. The demo was presented by Ron Olin on making Christmas decorations. This leads to the November Challenge which will be to make a Christmas Ornament of your choice. It can be a free standing table decoration or a tree ornament or anything else you might think of. Next month’s demonstration will be presented by Norm Beal. He will be showing up how to make a “Copper Dipper”. Norm’s demonstration will include instructions and handouts to show us how to design, assemble, and made the tools / forms necessary to complete the dipping end of a copper water dipper. He will also include software so that we can then go on to create our own dipper or other cone type assembly (think bird house cap). This will be a highly informational demo. I hope everyone can make it. November 14th. 10:00AM at the Christ Episcopal Church in Adrian. Don’t forget to bring your show and tell items. It’s always good to see what others are working on.

Jim Nickless was kind enough to put together a list of available resources for our club library.  Here is a link to Jim's list:  Library List

We are starting a mentoring program for our membership.  If you are willing to help by fielding questions, please get in touch with any of the club officers.

Don't forget about our special challenge of turning wooden flag holders for our veterans at the Ann Arbor VA hospital.  All bases should have a 3/16" hole to accept the flag.  Lloyd Niederriter brought this need to our attention.  He is shown below holding one of the holders made by our members even though Jim Nickless is now heading the program.
